(Female VO) When you think of a murdered woman, who’s the murderer? A man lurking in the shadows? A psychopath? A stranger? How about a husband? A boyfriend? A lover? The fact is, one-third of all female murder victims are killed by their intimate partners. In 69 percent of these cases, the murder weapon is a gun. These killings don’t come out of the blue. They’re usually the end of a long story of violent domestic abuse. Yet there’s no telling which man will keep on punching and kicking and which man will use a gun. That’s why under federal law, anyone convicted of domestic violence or subject to a domestic violence restraining order, can’t have a gun. They can’t own a gun, they can’t borrow a gun, they can’t use a gun. If they do, they can go to federal prison. If you or someone you know is being abused call 1-800-799-SAFE. If you have questions about the federal firearms laws call 1-800-ATF-GUNS. (Male Announcer) This message brought to you by ProjectSafe Neighborhoods.
